**It is important to note that MLD is very different to traditional massage, we only target the system that is just below the surface of the skin. If you are looking for swedish style massage or prefer deeper pressure, please do not book an MLD appointment.**

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specific massage technique which uses gentle, precise strokes to stimulate lymphatic flow to promote the release of fluid which builds up in the body called edema. Edema is swelling that occurs when interstitial fluids build up in various compartments in the body. Edema may result from reduced blood circulation, lack of exercise, sports related injuries, post-surgical recovery and lymph node removal post cancer surgery. MLD helps both acute and chronic conditions.

The aim of MLD is to increase the lymphatic system’s ability to remove excess swelling and debris from body tissues allowing proper nutrient exchange, enhanced blood circulation and the removal of toxins. MLD promotes the healing of fractures, sprains/strains, reduces pain and swelling and encourages recovery from wounds, burns and post-surgical procedures. It is highly beneficial for those with lymphedema, post-surgical recovery- including after mastectomy.

Therapists offering this style of treatment are trained and certified by the Vodder School (Level III Certification).

Registered Physiotherapist and mom of two I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Master of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Kinesiology. My interest in pelvic health was sparked while I was in the physical therapy program and soon ignited into a passion.

I immigrated from China with my family at the age of 5 and grew up in the lower mainland. My early childhood years consisted mostly of struggles with weight and minimal interests in movement. In middle school, I recognized that I no longer enjoyed the way I felt or the way I looked. This started my life-long experiments with exercise. It is here that my love for human movement began. From that point forward, my passion for movement has led me to the physiotherapy profession. I now have the privilege of helping people on their own unique journeys.

Speaking of journeys, motherhood nurtured my passion for pregnancy and postpartum care. My own pregnancy has shown me the significant gap our society currently has in maternal care. It was a wild goose chase to find accurate and evidence-informed knowledge. I found that practitioners either completely turned away pregnant clientele or fully embraced it; there was no middle ground. In my ideal world, a pelvic floor physiotherapist would be a part of every woman’s primary care team. There should be guidance and follow up care when it comes to the tremendous life changes of becoming a mother. I believe life should encompass comfortable movement: without nagging symptoms of pain, leakage, or discomfort. My philosophy involves an integrated approach that includes manual therapy, exercise, and education. This is to enable women everywhere to make informed decisions concerning their bodies and comfortable movements. I am blessed to love what I do and I hope to help you in your journey through motherhood!   Movement Hobbies: Volleyball, running, walking, weightlifting, and yoga. Languages: Fluent in English and basic Mandarin.

Timothy Fong’s journey in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) began at a young age, growing up in his grandparents’ TCM clinic in Ottawa, Ontario. There, he personally experienced and witnessed the remarkable efficacy of his grandmother’s Tuina therapy and his grandfather’s herbal medicine in treating injuries and illnesses. Inspired by his family’s legacy, Timothy began learning Tuina directly from his grandmother, developing and mastering the time-honored techniques that take years to perfect.

Timothy pursued a degree in Microbiology from the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2017. He then deepened his knowledge by completing the Doctor of TCM program at Tzu Chi International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCICTCM) in Vancouver in 2021.

With over a decade of dedicated study in his family’s refined Tuina and herbal medicine traditions, Timothy continues to preserve, advance, and integrate these time-honored healing practices into modern healthcare as a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner at the clinic.
